Research experiences are at the heart of the BMB program, and more than 90% of BMB majors engage in undergraduate research. Multiple courses throughout the curriculum contain semester-long research projects, and we offer upper-level, lab-only courses, in which students work on interdisciplinary research projects overseen by two professors. Our endowed Cross-Disciplinary Science Institute at Gettysburg (X-SIG) supports an immersive, full-time, eight-week, summer research program where students work on research projects alongside Gettysburg faculty members. Many of these student-faculty research collaborations lead to peer-reviewed publications with student co-authors, and students are provided support to attend conferences to present their research. These experiences build confidence, sharpen skills, and give students a competitive edge when applying to graduate programs, professional schools, and employment.
