First-Class Faculty

At Gettysburg College, your professors know you, challenge you, and work alongside you.

Our faculty are teachers, scholars, artists, researchers, and mentors. Through class discussions, research, and advising, you build relationships that will shape your education and your future.

That partnership is central to A Consequential Education. You are not just learning from faculty. You are contributing to the great work you do together.

Learn alongside Gettysburg College faculty

Gettysburg professors make it easier to ask questions, test ideas, and explore what interests you.

Gettysburg has about 200 full-time faculty, and 97% hold a doctorate or other terminal degree. With a 9-to-1 student-faculty ratio, classes averaged 17 students during the 2025-2026 academic year

Our personal approach to education helps create an environment where professors get to know you by name and your goals.

Work together on research

Learning with faculty can extend far beyond class.

By graduation, 60% of the Class of 2026 partnered with faculty on research.[MB5.1][MM5.2] You might study a question in a lab, examine historical sources, conduct fieldwork, or develop a creative project with a faculty mentor.

These experiences give you the chance to put your knowledge into practice. You also build skills in research, communication, teamwork, and problem solving.

Explore new ways to learn

Gettysburg faculty bring their own scholarship and creative work into your education.

A First-Year Seminar might lead you into an unexpected subject. A summer research project might take you into the field. In The Rogers Center for Innovation and Creativity, you might explore tools such as virtual reality and 3D printing.

The Johnson Center for Creative Teaching and Learning also helps faculty develop new approaches to teaching as artificial intelligence changes the way we learn and work today.

The result is an education built around questions, discovery, and active learning.

Find mentors who believe in you

Your relationship with a professor can launch your own Gettysburg Network.

Faculty advise students, guide research, connect classroom learning to new opportunities, and help students consider what comes next. They approach students as partners in the learning process and encourage them to Do Great Work.

That support helps you gain a clearer sense of what matters to you—and what you can do with what you learn in your career and throughout your life.
